so let's recap... need to call grandmother..feel marisa is using me. work is going pretty good. need to hit up linda for that raise i seem to keep being promised, but never delivered. haven't worked at the plaza since sunday.. don't know what's up with that. clay's gonna be outta town in spain soon and i know she'll need to fill shifts. maybe it's good i have time to fuck off after work sometimes. oh. i have a new roomate. proved she moves in, of course. her name's nia butler. she's started painting the room a nice bright red and i think she'll be moving in sat or sunday this week. seems nice enough. punky/goth type. i think she does naked modeling, as she mentioned she models and gets home really late at night. when she offered to give me deposit she pulled out this FAT roll of 20's and peeled off 10 them neat as you please and that was that. so we'll see how it goes. i fell fairly good about myself. getting over this stupid sickness that laid me out for about a week last week. almost becamse bronchitis. no fun at all--- fever etc.. two days after i gets meds from doctor i threw up 4 times at work. wtf is with that?!
anyway...about 3 days later my stomach felt better, it was all queasy for too long. but i am just about done w/ meds. my right shoulder's bothering me since my chair's not quite right for this thing i use for a computer desk, currently.
gonna update this, take a shower, and hit the sack watching some buffy season 2 i borrowed from joel at dad's garage theater. i'd not bother to shower tonight, but it's 'stuck pig' day with the ol' period. yay. being a girl just rocks! well, better to have one then to not, yo. like that's an issue currently. more venting on my lack of a love life later. i am putting out to the universe however how i'd think it would be swell to have a boy to kiss and hold hands with and snuggle under covers with watching movies. okay, universe!..it's your turn. send me someone. that is all.

i'm so excited! i stupidly spent $65 on a new 17 monitor... as my cool as hell computer from brooks made my old 13" one just start freaking out about 3 weeks ago. it would be on for about 15 min, then black out, had to turn off then wait 10 min to try again. made for some really frustraiting times. so now i'm rockin' out on the net to some punk rock... yay technology! and up next is social distortion. they're so fucking good. always just great blues lyrics to mournful gitars and drums.
so i wrote my new restaurant review article today. it's for a local place called Soul Vegeterian. i think sometimes that marisa is using me for my car. she's claled me three times this week to take her to work, or someplace... now belive me, i grew up without a car most of my life, so i know what a pain it can be..but she only works like a mile or so from home, maybe slightly more. and yes, i know it sucks to lug home cat litter while walking, but there ya go sometimes. i just don't want to become resentful of her. i keep forgetting to call grandma before it gets too late... i will call her tommorrow.
here's the article :Soul Vegetarian: Let your Soul shine through!

This month I went to a great little place just around
the corner from Sevananda called Soul Vegetarian
Restaurant. This is actually SV #2, as there’s an
original one on Ralph David Abernathy Blvd.
The staff has always been friendly, calling everyone
“brother” and “sister”, helping to create a cozy
atmosphere. There’s almost always some soulful jazz
music playing here. Walking in to the space is like a
small trip back in time; black and white checkered
floor and small cozy booths with red leather barstools
by the front door. It’s very reminiscent of a diner in
ages past. However, there’s nothing old-fashioned
about the food here. All of Soul Veg’s food is Vegan,
so you non-dairy folks can rejoice! It’s made fresh to
order and served piping hot.
They use the traditional Hebrew words here for their
foods, such as “Megedeem” for sandwiches. Some of the
sandwiches have names that are unfamiliar to many, but
the content of them will make your mouth water. “Meged
Agasheem” is a lentil burger that’s very dense (in the
good way) and filling. I’ve had that before, with some
of their “Hebrew Bakes” steak-fries and it is sure to
fill you right up. They also serve a delicious Pocket
Gyro made of thinly sliced “kalebone”, which is a Soul
Vegetarian exclusive. It’s a super protein (soy) roast
that’s sliced very thin, served in a toasted pita
pocket with tomatoes, sprouts and pickle slices. It is
topped with your choice of a garlic or cucumber
dressing. The pita, while certainly toasted, seemed to
have suffered some structural integrity problems. When
I went to pick it up, the soggy side, where the
tomatoes and sprouts were, had softened too much, and
I had to flip the sandwich to its more toasty side to
in order to not make it a fork- and -knife sandwich.
That seemed to have done the trick just fine. The gyro
itself was really delicious; the crunchiness of the
sprouts and pickle slices nicely set off the tomato
and kalebone. The kalebone itself is naturally a bit
salty, but the garlic dressing took care of that just
fine. Soul Veg has eight sandwich offerings, ranging
from the “Garvey Burger” -a kalebone patty with
“mierah” sauce (mierah is a sautéed mushroom and onion
sauce), to a Tofu Sandwich that’s battered and fried
like fish and comes with a creamy vegan tartar sauce.
In between all that there’s the “Salat Gezere”, which
is a carrot salad in a toasted pita pocket. They even
have a “Wheat Furter” hotdog.
Salat (salad) is also on the menu, with choices such
as the Garden Salat, Carrot Supreme and Tofu Salat.
You can even get a plate with all three options on it
for some great variety. They come with a choice of
garlic, cucumber and Prince dressing. Prince dressing
is made from canola and olive oil, nutritional yeast,
salt, and water. It is blended well and goes great on
any of the salads or even on some of the burgers as a
side, or to dip those steak-fries into. Marisa had the
Marak Afunah (split pea soup) on the day we went
together, and for “journalistic integrity” I was
compelled to have a spoonful or two. It is that
just-right consistency, not thin, or watery, and not
so thick your spoon stands up in it. It is very
creamy, and had a nice bite of fresh garlic to it. She
made the “I’m so happy” sound when she had the first
spoonful. Soul Veg also has Megedeem platters, which
not only comes with fries, but a small serving of
salad as well. These come with sliced cukes and
tomatoes on either side of a small plate, and it’s
just the right size to get you started before your
sandwich. There are side orders such as onion rings or
cornbread as well as sides of veggies available. Soul
Vegetarian has an in-house ginger drink as well as
fresh carrot juice to perk you up. They also, (if
you’ve possibly got room at this point), make homemade
soy bean “ice kream”. It comes by the scoop, half-pint
and pint, as well as quart. Sundaes and banana splits
are available there as well as shakes.
There is always a lunch special, and the day I was
there it was pepper-steak with gravy over rice with
vegetables. It sounded great, but since I hadn’t tried
the gyro yet, that’s what I ordered. They also serve
a dinner menu, that changes daily and runs $10.30 for
something that promises to “please your pallet,
satisfy your appetite, and to your life and
longevity.”
That is some kind of promise. I can’t wait to take
them up on it!
