here's a letter that i sent to a buncha peeps...
hey..what's going on in my life?
I mean, I have been outta contact with a great deal of you for a while. So i've decided to let'cha all know what i've been doing.
let's just backtrack to about november, okay?
last November 13, got divorced from Berny Clark. It's all to the good, belive me. We'd grown apart, and he decided he needed to 'find himself'... fine by me. We were seperated for a year before the divorce, and after the seperation I moved a few months later to an area of Atlanta called Grant Park with a roomate named Joshua. I moved in December.
So, what am I about now?
well, in January I got a small raise and a mid-size promotion to Customer Service Supervisor at Sevananda. It's the Co-Op I work at. I've been there since march 2001.
Left my crappy mcCrapalot job at the insurance company as I was fucking sick of it.
getting yelled at 8 hours a day is no fun. Add a 1.5 hour commute per day, not including for the random bus home in the snow or rain. i just said the heck with it.
The job at Sev dosen't pay a whole lot (just under 1/2 of what I made at the insurance comapany) but I am a WHOLE lot happier. I work with some funky people, one of whom is Themis from Texas. some of you know her. She's swell. Anyway, I work at a job that keeps me hoppin', where I multitask like a bastard and I am in charge for 4 other monkeys. yay for monkeys. It's a natural foods co-op, and I really like a place to work that I can honestly say I am proud of. The stick by their guns regarding whom they'll do buisness with, and I know that my input is appreciated. I have been able to help make concrete changes in my workplace.
Think about that. How many of you, or 'regular' people can honestly say that?
Anyway, I like my job, think I am up for another raise soon. whoo hoo for me, no?
I have a 2nd job at the Lefont Plaza Theater. It's an indie-art house theater in town w/ two screens. It's moneky work, really, pays shite, but again, interesting people work there. So if I'm not reading a book, I can talk w/ mostly intelligent people. However my manager is sometimes a different story. She generally treats me as if i am not 5 and retarded. Seriously. example: when one busy busy night we had a screening of some short films, and she told me 9 different things to do at the same time, and looked at me when I didn't just 'hop-to' I had to say "Ansely, you're telling me to do 9 things at once, you need to breathe and tell me what you want me to do first. I'll do it, but you've got to get some focus"
Wierdly enough she also holds me to some higher standard, and has told me she's intimidated by me because i'm smart. I don't get it. I try not to want to strangle her, but sometimes man, sometimes...
so, jobs down...what' next?
oh yeah, for a bit I was stage managing at a theater in town called ART FARM. I was stage manager of the Culture Barn talk show. Had go-go dancers, sketch comedy, inetersting guests, like the head of the Georgia ACLU and spoke word performer Ayodele ( eye-o-deli) however it seems the show's on summer hiatus. Convienently I now live about 1.5 blocks east of Art Farm, so I can now walk there on show nights. www.artfarm.com
speaking of theater... I've not really been working at Dad's Garage Theater for aa few months. There was some box office staff changes, and it seems that I am not welcome there in the capacity any longer. C'est La Vie. But they're still doing fun work there. Heck, right now, CARRIE WHITE: THE MUSICAL is going on. It's the unauthorized version of CARRIE THE MUSICAL. George is playing Carrie. He's 6'4 and skinny as a rail, and the play's set in 1989, a year we all remember. some with shudders, some with Heathers-like glee.

so let's see, theater stuff, job stuff, what's next? oh yeah... dating stuff?!?
well, not so much. went to the Atlanta Ballet to see M. Butterfly in April on a psuedo-date. Been to the museum w/ same guy, but don't think anything will come of it. almost had decided that I had a crush on someone, but since he didn't feel same way, said 'nevermind' and it's all to the good. we're still great pals.
In May I went to the GA Ren Faire w/ Themis and Tom and ran into DANIELLE Dupont. She's the cream in my coffee, baby she's so damn cool. I got to meet her honey, Will, whom I think more then passes muster. ended up at the funky formal a few days later, tho I was to move 2 days after that (but was mostly done packing in order to justify going to the dance) and ran into kevin from florida as well as this guy justin (i think that was his name) who went to high school w/ Beau and MC. Boy, THAT was a nice 'hi how are you, ps, you better sit down before we get to far into this conversation' to throw at those guys.
formal was great fun, and i ended up sleeping with kevin in the top bunk of a winnebago (JUST sleeping) as I brought him back to the fairesite at like 3 am, and was too tired to drive 30 min back home. hot up WAAAY too early at 7:15 am and drove right to work in clothes I had on the night before, which by the way, made everyone think I was overdressed for 8:45 am on a thursday.
moved June 1 with the help of some swell, sweaty friends. don't worry, I bought plenty of pizza and beer. I moved to an area a shade on the shady side called Cabbagetown. It's full of small shotgun shacks and funky neighbours.
so i moved june 1st, two days later those super people Joe and Megan and her daugher Cassidy came by on way from PA toHoustan. long drive, that. they stayed over in my hardly unpacked house and left in the morning. it was great to meet cassidy, whom i've heard about for two years. and i just found out last night that megan and joe are expecting sometime in march next year. Congratulations to them.
Went to Florida in June for the 'anniversary' of Beau's untimely death. Stayed at Mike McGreevy's super casa 'o love. that mike guy, he's swell on toast. Went with Christine Gingrich and that Matt guy from Athens. all was well 'til i got sick as a, well, a really sick person, the day before I left. ended up not really sleeping in my non-air conditioned car all the way back to Athens w/ Christine and Matt. boy, that day sucked. hot car, black tank top and shorts (clever me, to pack like that) and no real stereo to speak of. why is that, you ask?
Oh, that's because FOUR TIMES in 3 months was my car broken into. 1st time, passenger window smashed out ( at home ) and radio stolen. got window fixed by "Shady" Al, of Al's Glass Repair. (that's a long story, you want it, email me) Suffice to say, "Shady " Al is, in my mind, a new charater on THE SIMPSONS, whose tag-line is "Oh shady al, won't you ever learn?" 2nd time was TWO days later at a theater i was working at , driver window, nothing taken, why, because there was NOTHING TO TAKE!!!
3rd time... sheesh holly, aren't you tired of this yet? oh, yes, I surely am.
3rd time, apartment people were re-paving te back lot, so we all had to park on street, so some fools broke into trunk, taking both the cool-ass wool coat my aunt got me for christmas the year before and the box of cd's that had, thus far, managed to not get stolen. in the words of Homer, D'OH! - so in January, on way to see a movie w/ a friend, go out to car, driver's window smashed again (dammit!) and my $15 best-buy cd player plugged into lighter was took. foul, I cried!
two things on horizon. one, going to upstae New York w/ aunt's family for vacation. she's rented this phat! cabin that sleeps 12, comes w/ dishes and cookware, dvd player and gamecube, canoe and kyak on the lake next to it. whoo hoo!
my younger cousin john is on an internship at Ft Stanwix for the summer, so a visitin' i will go.
On august 22 my grandmother turns 99. hot damn... 99?!? yep. so, if you know her, or have met her and want to relay any birthday wishes etc, lemme know, and i'll pass them on.
and i am going to Dragon Con this year on a press-pass courtesy of Harry from www.aintitcool.com so i can cover the show. brooks is kindly bringing his digi-cam and laptop so i can send harry the stuff. i hope to interview a few of the people there, so if you go to the site (www.dragoncon.org) and you see something you'd like me to ask about , drop me a line.
oh yeah, and i've applied to go back to school at Geogia Perimter Collage. I take my placement test tomorrow, to see which math-for-dummies class i have to take, and get my paperwork straightened out, and hope to be enrolled for the fall term.
i've talked half-assedly about school for a while now, always with the ' when i have money' 'when i have time' crap. i just said, screw it, just go. i mean, there's never a 'right' time with some things, you just gotta do it.
so, here's to me, some luck, and some schooling.
I miss beau terribly some days, but then again sometimes I just want to be able to call my mom and let her in on my wacky adventures. same sense of saddness and loss. i don't whine about it (i think), and i seem to function reasonably well. pretty content on my own for right now, tho wouldn't turn down opprotunity, if it knocked, relationship-wise. don't know if i'm actually happy, as i feel like i am waiting for the other shoe to drop, as it seems to do rather often in my life as of late.
i will say this again, and in public, as it were. brooks is a GREAT brother. he's helped me so much both with some loot now and then, as well as just letting me be myself. stupid, and giddy, and letting my find my own way with a minimum of peanut gallery comments.
Thanks, brother, for being so cool.
Thanks to all of you, for touching my life on one way or another. most has been for the good, some for the great and some has made me cry. but ya know what? ... I'd not trade it for anything.
when last weekend, i unpacked some of beau's cookware, and found his blender, which i really needed to use, i said out loud that i would trade all his stuff, cool or not, plus all of my stuff for one more day with him, to let him know that he wasn't alone in this world. sure i guess i might get that way sometimes, but i usually just randomly too often people feel they're just going through so much, that no one will ever understand or be able to help. so here's some advice i saw recently " Be Kind, everyone is struggling in their own fight"
there's so much screwed up here on this little ball we live on. do your part to make it better. call people who need calling, write those you've been stalling on.
just make human contact, even if it's over this collection of electrons.
I hope you're all doing well in your life, and I await your responses.
Love,
Holly
